Heart donor recipient Jeff Clardy and his wife Marietta tell the story of their organ donation experience on the Nov. 2 episode of Ozarks at Large on KUAF.

They tell the story of how a teenager’s decision to become an organ donor changed their lives 15 years later.

Sixty-four percent of eligible Arkansans are registered to become organ, tissue and eye donors, and yet there are still 300 individuals on the waiting list. On the national level, there are 114,000 individuals on the transplant waiting list. That’s more people than would fill the largest football stadium in America.

Every 10 minutes, another person is added. Every day, 22 people die waiting for an organ that wasn’t available in time.

Each organ donor can save the lives of eight individuals, and tissue donation can help restore the lives of 75, according to Donate Life America.
