Frequently Asked Questions
There are numerous ways you can volunteer your time and influence with ARORA. Here are many of the most common ways volunteers contribute their time:
Sharing donation stories: Individuals who have been directly touched by organ and tissue donation and have a desire to share their story through presentations speak to community or professional groups. These groups consist of new nurses, civic clubs, church groups, high school classes and others who have desire or need to learn more about donation.
Advocating for Donation Awareness: Volunteers assist with donor registration drives, health fairs, tables at community events and fairs, and more. These volunteers focus on encouraging community members to register to give the gift of life.
Building Community Partnerships: ARORA works closely with local hospitals, DMVs, funeral homes, government agencies and more. Volunteers accompany Donation Development Liaisons or members of the Communications Department to build and grow these vital relationships.
Volunteers also assist with ARORA events such as the annual Celebration of Heroes Night at the Zoo, help with administrative duties at the ARORA office, and much more. There is a place for you at ARORA!

Anyone in Arkansas–and perhaps beyond–can volunteer with ARORA. Volunteers are often people who have been or those who love someone touched by organ, tissue or eye donation or feel passionately about the need for more donation in our communities. Volunteers may be donor family members, organ or tissue recipients, recipient caregivers and loved ones, living donors, those waiting, those who love someone on the waiting list. Anyone who would like the opportunity to share their experiences to inspire Arkansans to donate life can volunteer.
While we maintain offices in Little Rock and Fayetteville, ARORA Volunteers are needed in EVERY part of the state. Opportunities for donation can come from anywhere and as a member of your town or community, you will best know about opportunities to share stories and create a culture of donation. We welcome volunteers from any Arkansas town or city.
While training is best when you can meet and build relationships with other ARORA Volunteers, that may not be possible for those who live several hours from an ARORA office. If you live more than 60 miles outside of Little Rock or Fayetteville, contact the Family Services Aftercare Department at 501-907-9138 or aftercare@arora.org about opportunities to train remotely via internet meeting platforms like GoToMeeting and Skype.
ARORA staff members make volunteering simple. In fact, we have a full-time coordinator dedicated to making you successful in your role.
Here’s how to get started:
- Schedule a time to speak with a member of the Family Services Aftercare Department about volunteering with ARORA. This is a good time for you to ask questions about volunteering and learn more about ways volunteers help spread a culture of donation. Call 501-907-9138 or email aftercare@arora.org for more details.
- Submit a Volunteer Application to the Family Services Aftercare Department.
- Attend an ARORA Volunteer Training.
- Submit a background check and provide 3 references.
To represent organ and tissue donation and the ARORA organization well it’s important that you be fully trained and properly equipped. ARORA staff will conduct a complete orientation and training with you to ensure you’re ready, confident and comfortable in the role you assume.
Volunteer trainings usually last five hours with breaks; snacks, water and coffee are provided. Volunteers do not need to bring anything with them except their Driver’s License Number for their background check screening form.
Your training includes:
- Information about organ and tissue donation
- Information about ARORA’s mission, history and core values
- Information about what it means to be an ARORA Volunteer and the impact that can have on the community
- Information about how to share your donation story in a way that promotes organ and tissue donation
- An opportunity to share your donation story with the small group
- Information about myths that prevent some people from choosing to donate life
- A safe learning environment where questions are welcomed, experiences are respected and kindness is offered to each and every individual
